The bulb is under the ground which is very important part of the plant. The bulb consists of juicy leaves. These juicy leaves store food and they are called the tunic, which is reddish in onions and white in garlic. Above the ground, on both plants there are soft green leaves.

Onion and garlic are biennial plants. At the first year appear  the fibrous root system, the stem, the leaves and the bulb. At the second year appear the ball-shaped flower and the seeds.
